FAQ

How much time can I use azMidi in Demo mode?

If you are using azMidi downloaded from here, it will works for 30 minutes, and then it will drops down with a message that the time is expired. Thus you can run azMidi many times you need to evaluate it. It never expires.

What can I have to do to use azMidi without expiration time? (full license)

You have to purchase a full license, at EUR 50,00, (USD 65,50 at 17 Jan 2005 ), that you can pay directly via Paypal or other online payment service. Please contact me at alan@alanpower.it for more information.

Can I use azMidi with a MIDI patch bay or matrix?

Yes, of course. I have a personal setup that is using a simple USB MIDI with only 1 in / 1 out to send/receive informations from/to the PC (I am using a Tablet PC with a touch screen). However, I own several MIDI modules, so the MIDI out is directly connected with a 8 in / 8 out MIDI matrix patch bay that can routes signals or single channels as I need. The matrix itself is considered a “device” for azMidi, since I send to the matrix also his specific Program Changes each time I need.

What kind of MIDI message can I send for each step?

Each step is a “group” of statements. Each statement can be a MIDI command or another special command (for example Audio commands, Lyrics commands, Control commands, remarks, etc.).
azMidi lets you to send the following MIDI commands: Program Change, Control Change, Bank Change (with Variation if you need), Note On, Note Off, Reset (panic), System Exclusive Message. It is enouch, don’t you?

Can I manage as GM as GM2 modules?

Of course you can, but azMidi doesn't matter what about the content of commands. It sends to your modules whatever you want and it did his work. So, it is not important if you have GM or GM2 modules. The most important thing is to understand HOW your modules want messages.

Can I display also notes (staff) on my Lyrics (sheet music) or only words?

The Lyrics panel is a “browser based” component, so it can accept every HTML page within graphical objects, like GIF or JPEG images.
Usually I write music by hands
(for example a Synth Solo), than I scan the paper and I put the GIF (or JPEG) file inside a blank or written HTML page.
You can also “turn the page” by using bookmarks as well inside your song steps.

Can azMidi rechannelize or reroute MIDI events?

No - or better - not yet. azMidi is now only a “sender” of MIDI data. Really it can already “read” MIDI input informations, but only for CONTROL purposes: for example you may want to simulate the “next step” button by pressing a sustain pedal (Control Change #64) and so on. It cannot modify the input signal, in order to forward it modified.
If you need that job, you should use a MIDI matrix (patch bay) of last generation, that can change the channels, filter some special data, change the velocity curve, and so on. I am now using a particular patch bay that can do this.

How does the audio stream work with azMidi?

Simple, azMidi first “prebuffers” the stream, in order to put in memory at least the first seconds of the stream. Then azMidi can play it (on the audio device you have chosen at start), Stop, Pause or Abort it.
You can play simultaneously many tracks as you need. If you want to free memory you can “unbuffer” some of your prebuffered tracks, but only once they have been stopped or terminated.
